Slow start, but she made up for it in no time
The show began slightly delayed, and when Julien-K emerged, she appeared somewhat reserved. Their video screen had apparently been caught by the wind and brought down. I also pondered if the wind was triggering some allergies for her. This phase only lasted for a couple of songs, and she appeared to engage more as the performance progressed. Following some of her traditional folk tunes, she transitioned to tracks from her most recent album, Leave Your Sleep. She energetically danced and jigged through many of the tunes. "Ebenezer Bleezer" had a slightly faster tempo compared to the CD version, which, in my view, worked better. The audience particularly enjoyed this track and "Calico Pie."
The encore set, which lasted a substantial hour, followed her initial farewell. She included some of her personal favorites ("Wonder" and "Kind and Generous") along with beloved songs from her 10,000 Maniacs era.
Initially, I was inclined to rate this concert with only 4 stars due to the slow start. However, upon reflection, I acknowledged that she delivered a nearly 3-hour performance, engaging the audience in singing along for most of it. She interacted with the crowd on numerous occasions. This concert stands out as one of the finest I've attended in a long time, offering a pleasant surprise with a star from the 80's and 90's venturing into entirely new material instead of solely relying on the classics.
